To Cell or Not to Cell—That is the Question
December 4, 2007 |
It seems that most of what I read about small groups these days focuses on cell groups—that is, groups with a focus on “the empty chair,” on multiplication. While such groups are wonderful they aren’t the only type of effective group.
Cell groups focused on multiplication are an excellent evangelism tool. They’re essential if your focus is on seekers. They’re also essential to enfold new people into your church or large group. However, multiplication groups are not the best approach for discipleship or growth. There are better approaches. Over the next several posts we’ll look at the pros and cons, when to use a cell group and when to use another type.
If you’re finding that there’s declining interest in your small group ministry, it may be that you have too narrow a definition of groups. Stay tuned.

I’m glad your going to cover the differences of cell groups. I find that deeper growth and community may develop in a “closed for a season” small group.
