Book Signing at The Door
September 11, 2007 |
I just returned from a wonderful event at The Door Christian Bookstore in San Carlos, our local Christian bookstore. Kathy Dunn (below), the new owner, has wanted to do more than sell books. She wants to build community within the local Body of Christ. So she invited me to do a book signing and mini-workshop on Why Didn’t You Warn Me? It was a first–and an experiment–for both of us. She and hubby Mike put several of their displays on wheels to create a flexible meeting space. Great idea!
We started at 5:30 and served light refreshments. I kept it low-key and informal, and the attendees were soon peppering me with questions and offering their own examples. It was great fun. We had our own impromptu small group. About a dozen women participated, and at least one gentleman was seen lurking behind the stacks. Actually, he was shopping, but it turned out he was an old friend and stayed around to listen as he shopped.
I’m always amazed at how a group of strangers can bond so quickly. It’s a great example of the bond that knowing Christ gives us. These women were clearly interested in growing their groups to maturity in Christ, and were eager for any hints they could gain, both from me and from the others.
I’d love to do more events like this, so if your local Christian bookstore is interested, have them contact me.
